Walk and Talk Therapy...where the mind and body are both in motion!
Does Eye Contact Make You Nervous?
Is It Difficult For You To Sit For A Period Of Time? Is It Easier For You To Share With Someone While You Are Not Looking Directly At Them? If This Sounds Like You.... Why not make your next counseling session a SNEAKER SESSION? Sneaker Sessions may be mixed as desired with traditional in-office sessions. Sneaker Sessions may only start after a thorough intake assessment has been completed in-office, typically (1-3 sessions).
Things to consider prior to Sneaker Sessions: - Are you healthy enough for a 45 minute walk? - Do you own a good pair of walking shoes or sneakers? -Will you be comfortable enough while you walk to be able to carry on a conversation? -Any concerns or questions that you may have regarding a Sneaker Session can be answered directly via phone, so please feel free to call 315.345.4728. |
Avery Counseling is proud to be the very FIRST to offer Walk and Talk Therapy in Syracuse, New York!
For those that enjoy the great outdoors and like the idea of mixing better mental health with movement, Walk and Talk Therapy is a great option for both counseling and life coaching. What is Walk and Talk Therapy? It is traditional psychotherapy where both client and counselor are walking while talking. It is the perfect mind-body connection. Science has shown incredible benefits from both psychotherapy and walking and when combined together the two become exponentially successful. Walking produces endorphins, the body's natural morphine-like chemicals that improve mood, walking also slows the heart rate and increases blood flow to the brain which may help improve memory, task coordination, scheduling, and planning. Other benefits of Walk and Talk Therapy - Some people may simply enjoy getting up and out during their traditional counseling session instead of simply sitting. - Others may feel less encumbered by the uncomfortable silences or eye contact of a face to face meeting. - Still others really appreciate the intricacies of the mind and body connection. Confidentiality Issues with Walk and Talk Therapy Confidentiality during Sneaker Sessions (counseling/coaching) cannot be guaranteed to be completely confidential. Although it is highly unlikely that others hear what walker are saying as they pass by, you do need to be aware of this in your decision making process. |
